Website design ?

I bought a website URL and hosting from GoDaddy and also purchased Website Tonight [which I have been very unsuccessful in using.]

Are there any good website design programs that grant you a lot of flexibility and are not extremely pricey?

I like Coffeeinacup software. They have some free versions but the paid allows you to do the live editing on your site. Try out the free ones and see if it is to your taste. What may be one mans/womans goldmine may not be another’s.

Most of them are pricey like frontpage and dreamweaver. But http://www.createblog.com has a few free site layouts.

Creating a website is more knowledge and less program. If you know what you’re doing, you can make very nice sites with Notepad. (Granted, it’s a royal pain – Notepad Plus makes it a lot easier – and it’s still free.) If you don’t know what you’re doing, even Dreamweaver won’t help you much.

About your only option, if you don’t want to spend 6 months learning, is a CMS. Go to http://php.opensourcecms.com/ (or http://asp.opensourcecms.com/ if you bought Windows hosting), try some of the demos and see if there’s anything you like. They’re free, they have support forums and they don’t take any programming knowledge to set up. (Except for Joomla and Drupal, which are really coding libraries, not sites.)
